Conference Objectives

     The University of El Oued has the great honour to  announce the call for papers for the First National Conference in the department of English.

     This two-day conference will bring together academics from around Algeria to discuss the key issues involved in the learning process   of English as a foreign language in Algeria.

     This conference offers an exciting opportunity for national educators to share knowledge, ideas and expertise as we strive constantly for greater quality in teaching, learning and also in research.

      In relation to the theme of the conference, our objectives are:

5. To discuss the presence of L1 in the learning of L2.
5. To consider the various approaches related to the analysis of learners' errors.
5. To come out with practical suggestions and recommendations for both teachers and learners.
5. To encourage research and establish academic manifestations.
6. To publish the presentations given during the conference.

Conference Tracks

       Since the late sixties and early seventies, two schools of thought have focused on foreign language learner's errors. These include the structural behaviouristic school and the transformational generative grammarians.

     Two justifications have always been proposed for the study of learner's errors. One is pedagogical and the other is theoretical. The pedagogical justification claims that any attempt to eradicate errors should necessarily be preceded with a clear understanding of the errors themselves. The theoretical justification suggests that errors  help us understand the process of second language acquisition. And due to the fact that most errors are ascribed to interference, this colloquium intends to look into this topic from two different corners: theory and practice. The theoretical part will review the related literature and the second part will focus on transfer errors that are usually committed by our students at the Algerian university.

      Therefore, the authors are invited to submit their research papers on any topic under the following tracks:

5. Axis one: Reviewing the related literature.

- Contrastive analysis.

- Error analysis.

5. Axis two: The contribution of linguistic schools to the field of error analysis:

•  Error analysis from the point of structural linguistics and transformational generative grammar.

5. Axis three: An analysis of the learner's transfer errors ( based on the teacher's own teaching experience, i.e., transfer in grammar, phonology and semantics).
5. Axis four: How to deal with errors in English language teaching:

- Teacher's role.

- When should teachers deal with errors, before or after they take place ?

- Learner's role.

There will will a small touristic and cultural tour around El oued.

Submission instructions for authors

-Papers size must be A4 ( 21 29,7cm).

-We strongly recommend that you use the WORD file NOT pdf to produce your document.

-Papers should meet a common academic or professional citation style ( MLA).

-Papers must be typed in Times New Roman 12 and titles in Times New Roman 14.

-Single spacing is required throughout all the document.

-Length: No less than 10 pages and no more than 20 pages.

-Languages: English and French.

-Each paper should contain an abstract with a maximum of 250 words that appears at the beginning of the document.

-Carefully proofread to eliminate spelling anf grammar mistakes.

-Speakers will be allocated 15 mns to present their papers.

-We recommend that you submit your presentation slides two weeks prior to the event to give us ample time to save your presentations to our computers or flash drives.
